We finally
made the drive down to Key West towards the tail-end of my Spring Break. Since moving to Florida, everyone has told us
that The Keys were something we couldn’t miss and boy were they right!
Did you know
roughly 1,700 islands make up the Florida Keys? Very few of these islands are
inhabited and most of the islands are very small. 43 of the islands are
connected by 42 bridges, including Seven Mile Bridge, which is the longest.
It is
approximately 120 miles from the Florida mainland to Key West and mile marker 0 marks the Southern
most point of the continental U.S. The drive was long, but the view was
something I couldn’t complain about. We were surrounded by crystal blue waters
on either side of us for a good portion of our drive down. I really couldn't get over how beautiful it was!

Hoor and I
stayed at a beautiful resort right on the beach. We spent most of our time
relaxing in the hammocks by the beach and cooling off in the pool. Our evenings
were spent eating, drinking, and shopping on Duval Street. Because we tried to
plan our dinners around the “not-to-be-missed” sunset, we often ended up
grabbing a quick bite to eat before and after, which was fine with us, because we
truly did get a “Taste of Key West.” My favorite were the conch fritters! Conchs
are large sea snails found in large spiral-shaped shells that can be found all
over Key West.
Our first morning in Key West, we woke up early and took a walk around the island. After Hoor got his cup of coffee, we admired the charm that surrounded us and the many roosters we encountered on our walk.

One of the
most relaxing things we did was yoga on the pier near our resort. Nothing beats
yoga with a gentle ocean breeze.
Later that evening we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset from this same pier!
Our quick weekend getaway ended on an exciting
note. During Sunday Brunch, Slade Smiley and Gretchen Rossi from The Real
Housewives of Orange County were seated at the table next to us! I couldn’t
contain my excitement during brunch as I was plotting for a cool way to say,
“I’m so excited for this season” without seeming intrusive or rude. Hoor
convinced me not to do anything. Later as we were checking out of the resort, I
ran into Gretchen in the lobby and worked up the courage to ask her for a
picture. She was embarrassed because she had no make-up on (only if we could
all look that good sans make-up), but she eventually agreed.
She chatted to
both Hoor and I about her brief stay in Key West before heading to New York the
next day for the RHOC premiere. I was pleasantly surprised to find her a normal
and nice person. Hoor even said, his favorite line of her’s was “Don’t call me
the princess, call me the boss!” Hearing this, she cracked up. We said our
good-byes to Gretchen before heading back to Duval Street for some last minute
shopping and Key Lime Pie.
Thank you
Hoor for an amazing weekend!
